May 2016

Awww! Old Man Winter returned to ruin the Rotten Egg Hunt that the Easter Bunny had made for April 10th. It was cancelled until the next weekend-April 17th, when spring had returned. Pat Brown had collected and prepared plastic eggs for the young of heart to find at the Sleepy Hollow State Park Equestrian Staging Area. Beth Repas donated emu eggs for very special prizes to find and keep. Several rotten eggs w/o candy were placed with several hundred loaded eggs among grass. Thanks to those volunteers and Pat for helping the Bunny have fun at the park. See the list of winners and pictures on our FaceBook page.

The DNR has held several Management Planning meetings for the new Master Plan for Sleepy Hollow State Park. Several user groups shared ideas, future goals, and how to achievement our goals. There is an on line survey for park users to share their experiences, number of visits, and rank their views. No names are to be left. This data will be used to help plan future improvements with the Master Plan. SHTRA hopes to be able to achieve more trail mileage and future camping.

Speaking of camping—-Don’t forget that BOTH RENTAL CABINS HAVE EQUESTRIAN Picket POLES and connect to the trail network. If you don’t have an LQ trailer, are traveling on US -27 , have family members who want to camp w/o the tent experience —check out the possibility of renting one of these scenic cabins. On line reservations are made thru the DNR website.
